Garborg Lodge meets at 6:30pm on the Third Tuesday of the month at Calvary Lutheran Church, Berean Hall, 547 Rose Ave. in Modesto, CA. In addition to a potluck hot meal preceding every business meeting cultural presentations are usually scheduled.
Note: There are no meetings scheduled for the months of March, May, August, and December. Social get togethers are substituted usually on those months such as dining out, picnics, and a Xmas party. Check with the Lodge Editor about these irregular month social dates and times.
Garborg Lodge observes its Anniversary every January on the 3rd Tuesday at installation time.
We have had our 60th Birthday this year! In May of each year Garborg observes Syttende Mai Celebration (Norwegian Independence) with a Tri-Valley Picnic on the 3rd Sunday of the month at Rotary Cove 1,of Lake Yosemite in Merced, Cal. This is a free potluck event with the 4 lodges, Garborg (Modesto), Solheim (Stockton), Stordallen (Visalia), and Scandia (Fresno) providing meat and beverages, coffee, soft drinks and draft beer. We have games, horse shoes, volley ball and fun for the kids. Our raffle helps pay for the expenses each year.
Garborg participates in Dash-Tu-Dorrington at the Staffords cabin every 4th Saturday of July in a fun day of pot-luck, barbeque and washer board games.
Garborg is a participating community organization at International Days sponsored by the City of Modesto at the Gallo Center for the Performing Arts this November 8-9, 2008. We will have a Norwegian cultural information booth at the 2 day event and festival telling fair goers of Norway and its culture.
Garborg has its 60 annual Swedish Meatball and Lutefisk dinner on Saturday November 22, 2008 at the Denair Community Center, 3850 Gratton Rd., Denair, Cal. Serving from 3:30pm - 5:00pm with a dance presentation by the "Modesto Village Dancers' and followed with a great raffle session.
Garborg always has a fun and festive Jul bord and holiday party every year at various locations. Check with the Editor as to time, date, and location.
Garborg will HOST the SON District 6 Convention in June 22-26, 2010.
